Phi Sigma Rho Sorority
I joined Phi Rho more for professional reasons, it being a sorority for women in engineering and because I needed an extracurricular for my resume. I've always been more of a guys girl, so I had my misconceptions and doubts about a sorority, and an engineering sorority sounded rather like a nerd club. I chose to accept the bid however, because I wanted to prove my misconceptions wrong and stay open to new things.
Throughout the semester I was pleasantly surprised more than once that my misconceptions were as a matter of fact wrong. Yes, there are nerds, we all pretty much are, being in engineering, but I sincerely like quite a few girls and look very much forward to fulfilling that sister/girl bond that I never had. It showed me that none of the girls really fit a mold, and each is different and special in their own way, and that I can get along with girls, and have fun in groups. Phi Rho is a bond with a bunch of girl that I will have forever, and has become a support network as well as a professional network.
It also reminded me through our community playground building philanthropy event, how much I enjoy doing manual labor that has an instant result, and how good it feels to do something for others that means something to them and will be used for a long time to come.
Joining this sorority proved to me once again that I should be thankful and take every opportunity shown to me, and always keep an open mind.
