LeaderShape 2015
My LeaderShape week was an uplifting and confirming experience, renewing my faith in my generation, and my own ability to make a difference. Being around sixty other young adults who also have world-changing visions, and strong ideas was inspirational, as was being in an encouraging and uplifting environment.
Leadership was always something rather vague to me. I knew I had potential to lead, but did not know how to go about it in a tactful way. The LeaderShape experience and curriculum gave me the space and guidance I needed to understand many of the aspects of leadership better. Our highly motivating and entertaining team leads and speakers helped guide us to think in unexpected ways, and realize on our own where we were falling short in our goals. That’s what makes this experience unique – it allows you to notice things in yourself on your own – which in my opinion is the only way for anything to actually stick. The experience provided me the resources and space to further develop personal goals about living intentionally and with integrity. It provided me with a basis of what was already inside me, and a toolkit to further grow myself. It taught me how personal integrity is – how related it is to so many aspects of ones attitude, values and goals. I was able to reflect on and choose core values that meant something to me, and create a vision bigger than I had ever dared to think about before.
Although my “Tomorrow’s headline” is only a rough draft of thinking big, it is a general direction I want to head into. I was pushed to think far beyond simply the medical degree I am pursuing, to something that will create an impact and be around when I am not. I also chose to share our Wisdom Board because it was a great reminder for all of us of the things we sometimes forget during the course of our daily lives and interactions.
I am so grateful for this having had experience, and I’ve seen how important it is to surround oneself with supportive and visionary people, to inspire and push you forward to bigger and greater goals.
